Wood: Recycled or New? (Click here to view a species list)

We'll work with most woods, but we welcome any opportunity to work with recycled lumber. Not only is it beautiful with unique coloring, but utilizing recycled resources is also improtant to us. We are constantly on the lookout for stashes of recycled wood, from old factories, barns, shipyards, trestles, lakebeds, and wherever else we can find it. Our inventory is always changing; contact us to see what we currently have in stock. We also have several suppliers, so we can usually find what you are looking for even if we don't have it in the shed. We can ship wood as is or mill it for your application.

We are fortunate to work with Trestlewood and have available to us the choicest selection. Trestlewood comes from a hundred-year old 12 mile long rail trestle spanning an arm of the Great Salt Lake. Old-growth Douglas Fir, and closely grained ancient heart Redwood, as well as flat-grained Redwood, are the predominant species. Doug Fir from below water line is impregnated with salt and mineralized into unusual colors. It is hard to burn, so makes great siding. The redwood is holey from the railroad spikes and makes interesting accents or rustic products.

We currently have access to picklewood, which comes from old pickle vats and can be from many different kinds of trees. It is charactarized by deep staining, making a rich final product. There can be pegholes that can add character or a sense of history to your project. Species vary from Fir to Cypress, Oak, Cedar, and Redwood, to name a few.
